This will surprisingly exclude a lot of everyday brands that we may take for granted, especially makeup and other beauty products. Next time you are trying to decide on a beauty item, turn the bottle around and look for a logo of a happy bunny. This also includes switching over to “vegan leather”, but we are all in luck because although not real, it feels and it is just as durable as its contender, except it comes with a huge perk of being cruelty-free!
Another big factor when it comes to cruelty to consider is how well the people who make these items are treated. It is heartbreaking to know that not all companies follow basic human standards, this could include child labour, unfair wages or very long working hours. Sustainable fashion brands support fairer and safer working conditions, meaning you can smile every time you see your reflection when wearing a new pair of trousers knowing it comes without any hidden misfortune.
Most sustainable fashion brands refer to themselves as green, and they truly are helping to keep our planet greener. This comes from attempting to reduce carbon footprint by using material that requires significantly fewer fossil fuels or petroleum to make in order to achieve the same effect, such as organic cotton, linen or on-trend recently hemp. This also includes paying close attention to what chemicals are being used, green brands choosing the healthier option and methods of creating their goods, some of which changing ways to use less water in the process.
